The first semester did not transform me, and that is fine
I expected university to change me visibly. I thought I would become more confident, more interesting, more independent, and somehow the kind of person who owns a sensible coat. Instead, I arrived with the same insecurities and added several administrative passwords. There were changes, but they were embarrassingly small. I learned which groceries are actually worth carrying across town. I started asking questions before I had fully apologised for asking them. I learned that one bad tutorial does not predict a degree. I can cook four meals instead of two. I know who I can text when the day becomes weird. I still avoid some events because I am nervous. I still call home for advice I probably know. I still do not have a five-year plan. The dramatic before-and-after story has not happened. Maybe the change is that I no longer require it to happen all at once.
