I do not have a calling and I am trying to stop inventing one
Some people explain their degree choice through a childhood interest, a personal experience, or a precise career. My real explanation is that I had several subjects I liked, several futures I did not hate, and a deadline. I used to make the story sound more intentional because “I am still finding out” felt immature. University marketing is full of people with direction. Family conversations are easier when the degree leads to a recognisable job. Even other students often ask what you want to do before asking what you currently enjoy. The truth is that I chose with incomplete information, like most major decisions. That does not mean I chose randomly. It means interest came before certainty. I am trying to let the course be a place where I discover the direction rather than proof that I should already have one.
